Segmenting Musical Notes
The first layer of speech you will practice segmenting is the melodic layer. But speech notes are tricky to hear and mimic. So to warm up your ears and larynx, we’re going to start by segmenting simple 3 note musical melodies. Whereas speech notes are random pitches, musical notes are mathematically ideal pitches, which makes them easier to discern and reproduce. Follow the video instructions below.

Segmenting Notes in Speech
Below you will practice mimicking phrase melodies and breaking them down into separate notes. Your biggest distraction in doing this will be the phonemes, which your attention is more primed to focus on.
To help you focus on the melody, we’ve muffled the audio so that all you hear is the melody. Working with that layers, do your best to match the melody as closely as you possible can with your voice, noticing the subtle nuances of up and down pitch movement.
